AMEC | Metropolitana

 

AMEC | Metropolitana is a non-profit cultural institution that was founded in 1992, with the objective of divulging and teaching classical music. It manages an orchestra – Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa – and three schools – Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra (higher education), Conservatório de Música da Metropolitana (basic and secondary education) and Escola Profissional Metropolitana (integrated education).

Having as its founders the Lisbon City Council, the Secretariat of State for Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Solidarity and Social Security, the Secretariat of State for Tourism and the Secretariat of State for Sports and Youth, AMEC | Metropolitana also comprises a  large number of Patrons, Sponsors and Regional Promoters or Partners, who all come together in this innovative project.

AMEC | Metropolitana stands out through the way it combines the musical work of its orchestra with the teaching of music, from Preschool to MA degrees. With 28 years of operation under its belt, AMEC | Metropolitana is currently a solid institution and a key reference in the fields of Portuguese culture and artistic education. It has trained several orchestra directors and instrumentalists, who today work in the foremost musical organisations in Portugal and abroad.

AMEC | Metropolitana is a unique and innovative project within the Portuguese and international contexts, with an encompassing approach to the domains of music teaching and musical culture.

Associação Amigos do Coliseu do Porto

 

The Coliseu do Porto, which opened on 19 December 1941, is currently classified as a Public Interest Monument. In this building, an icon of Modernism, classical-style decorations are combined with the most up-to-date equipments and technologies, creating a unique atmosphere, fully prepared to host the finest shows. Its Main Room can hold 3.000 people sitting and 4.000 standing; it also features a circus ring that is the only one of its kind in Portugal, an ample orchestra pit for large operas and cine-concerts, and matchless acoustics.
The Associação Amigos do Coliseu do Porto, a private non-profit public interest company, was founded in 1995, and then took ownership of the theatre. Its most important sponsors are the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, the Porto City Council and the Porto Metropolitan Area. Its mission is to bring to the Coliseu’s audiences a cultural offer that is independent, varied and continuous, complementing its usual programming with more and more quality productions.

Teatro Aramá

 

Teatro Aramá was established in Porto, in August 1995. Since then, the company’s productions have been created within a great variety of thematic and artistic contexts. The interplay of text, subject, space and also aesthetics as creative triggers allows room for spontaneity, in an endeavour to renew the act of creation. Each process begins a new journey towards new experiences that will hopefully bring artistic and human enrichment. The company’s audiences feature a great variety of age groups: children, teens and adults, thanks to the wide range of approaches it employs to attain its desired objectives.
