Associação Amigos do Coliseu do Porto

The Coliseu do Porto, which opened on 19 December 1941, is currently classified as a Public Interest Monument. In this building, an icon of Modernism, classical-style decorations are combined with the most up-to-date equipments and technologies, creating a unique atmosphere, fully prepared to host the finest shows. Its Main Room can hold 3.000 people sitting and 4.000 standing; it also features a circus ring that is the only one of its kind in Portugal, an ample orchestra pit for large operas and cine-concerts, and matchless acoustics.
The Associação Amigos do Coliseu do Porto, a private non-profit public interest company, was founded in 1995, and then took ownership of the theatre. Its most important sponsors are the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, the Porto City Council and the Porto Metropolitan Area. Its mission is to bring to the Coliseu’s audiences a cultural offer that is independent, varied and continuous, complementing its usual programming with more and more quality productions.
